    Description

PRESS PHOTO OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN PROTESTERS, DURING THE JULY, 1975 DETROIT RIOTS
UPI PRESS PHOTO OF A GROUP OF YOUNG AFRICAN-AMERICAN PROTESTERS, LABELED A "RIOT," IN A WEST SIDE DETROIT NEIGHBORHOOD, IN RESPONSE TO THE FATAL SHOOTING OF A BLACK TEENAGER BY A WHITE BAR OWNER.
Vintage UPI press photo, black-and-white, measuring 8 x 10 inches, caption within the negative (dated July 30, 1975). Newspaper rubber stamps on verso: "DETROIT/RIOT," and "Examiner Reference Library Jul 31, 1975." The photograph depicts an African-American man, hard raised up, "arguing" with 2 police officers, one white, one black. Given the current global wave of protests over police violence against minority communities, this is another stark reminder of the long history of this systemic injustice and violence in our country towards people of color. Very good condition, with some light wear and creasing.
